The Writing Assignment for Essay 2:
Argue for your interpretation of a significant feature/aspect of The Heroic Slave. Briefly, make use in the essay of one secondary source that we have read (a historical document, or the excerpt from Delbanco, or the excerpt from Gates) to establish a context for your argument about the novella. In the argument, perform close reading of passages from The Heroic Slave. In the close reading, analyze 2 to 3 moments of textual evidence in the novella and make use of this analysis to argue for your interpretation of The Heroic Slave.
