Write a summary on how Hispanic parents feel about their special education experience. My qualitative case study is about determining if white, black, or hispanic parents are more dissatisfied with their experiences and looking for commonality. I need the DOI with each reference.
“”””Arais and Mortier (2020), conducted a qualitative case study with 10 Latino, Hispanic, mothers about their viewpoints of family-school partnerships. A lack of family-school partnership directly impacts outcomes for children with disabilities and reduces access to appropriate programming and placement needs, reduced attendance, increase parent stress, and reduced development in social and academic development (Arais & Mortier, 2020). The design of family-school partnerships in education reflects the embedded beliefs and practices of a White Euro-centric system (Francis et al., 2016). Hispanic mothers do not feel that special education is a level playing field for them due to their cultural and linguistically diverse background Arais & Mortier, 2020). Although many Hispanic parents want to participate in their childs special education meeting, they are placed in vulnerable positions and feel they are labled as submissive and unassertive, uneducated, and lacking knowledge about the education system (Monzo, 2013).
Some Hispanic parents have also felt fear from school staff administrators that if they were to question the school system the principal or teacher would retaliate and report them to the police based on their current immigration status and, thus, have to remain silenced and appreciate any services that are provided even if they are not considered appropriate (Lee, 2016; Lian & Fontanez-Phelan, 2001). “”””
