In this creative writing essay the author should take the role of consultant to an organisation. Your aim is to write a brief report to the organisations management a sustainability-related solution to a sustainability-related dilemma in a way that they will accept the proposed measure. You are free to choose a company and a dilemma. Identify a company: it should be an existing company operating in the hospitality sector. It should be in the state of Qatar.
Identify a dilemma: the dilemma should be sustainability related. For example, you can look in a managerial choice where profit conflicts with people-related values. If you want to challenge yourself, try to do this for something you really care about. (You can make up the dilemma but it should be credible.) Find pieces of outside evidence to support that the company faces this dilemma (expert opinion; newspaper articles; academic research).
Propose a sustainability-related solution, i.e. a solution where triple bottom line value is maximized / negative impacts are minimized.
Perform a stakeholders analysis (using Mitchell, Agle and Wood PLU attributes or another academically validated analysis) and identify two key stakeholders that would benefit from your solution:
o Identify the main value to each of these two key stakeholders. Avoid a long list of values; mention the top value and one or two supporting ones. These values may be different or similar across the two stakeholders.
o Find pieces of outside evidence (expert opinion; newspaper articles; academic research) to support that it will have this value.
Identify one stakeholder for which the issue does not matter and identify a stakeholder who is an opponent, either because it does not believe the issue is relevant or because it may oppose your solution.
o Explain why this stakeholder does not matter or why their opposition is not fatal.
What are the key assumptions of your dilemma, stakeholders analysis, solution that you will need to validate? How would you validate it?
o In other words, what do you need to be true for this to work?
o The importance test: there should be answers to the validation test such that your recommendation changes to do not pursue the measure.
o Find pieces of outside evidence (expert opinion; newspaper articles; academic research) to support your reasoning.
