You will apply perception-checking or I Statement in a naturally occurring interpersonal communication with a closed relationship partner (friend, family member, or romantic partner) or a professional relationship partner other than a member of this class (co-worker, supervisor, customer, instructor from another class, office staff, etc.) The communication may occur in person, online, or via an electronic device. You must verbally and nonverbally demonstrate the skill appropriately.

Your paper must:

Identify the skill you applied (perception-checking or I Statement).
Define the skill you applied with a denotative meaning from the textbook, handout, or lecture and cite your reference in the body of your paper and at the end of your paper.
Define the skill with a connotative meaning or based on your personal understanding.
Describe the circumstance in which the skill was used (who, what, where, when)
State in direct quotation how you used the skill.
Example: “I noticed you avoided making eye contact when you answered my question. I am not sure whether you’re hiding something or you’re just being polite based on your culture.

Describe the perceived effect of your use of skill (what happened as a result).
Analyze the reason(s) you believe the skill resulted in the effect you noticed. Provide your unique insight based on your experience.
Your paper must:

be typed in full sentence, double spaced, with one-inch margins, and adhere to the principles of college writing.
have organization from introduction to conclusion.
have at least two full pages.
cite Interplay, the handout, or lecture properly as reference in the body of your paper and at the end of your paper.
