Option 1: Listening Diary
Complete the 3 Day Listening Diary and then return to answer the following questions. Attach your diary with the questions.
Did you anticipate the results of the diary? Why or why not? Did you find that the styles you used most frequently were the ones you circled prior to collecting the data?
Which listening/nonlistening and response styles did you use most frequently? Do you see any patterns in your listening behaviors? (Do particular situations or people or times of day regularly correlate with certain listening/nonlistening behaviors or response styles?)
What conclusions can you draw about your listening behavior?
How effective are your listening patterns? How satisfied are you with your listening behavior? Explain why you are satisfied or dissatisfied. How would you wish to change? How can you begin to change?
Option 2: Listening on the Job
Identify in the most specific terms possible the career you want to get when you are done with college.
For each type of listening response, describe a situation in which you think you might use it in this future career you’ve identified. If you don’t think you would use it, explain why.
