Hello Class, You may begin posting on Sunday for credit. The first post is due Wednesday 11:59pm MT and the second post is due Sunday 1159 PM MT. Participation Requirements: You are required to post a minimum of two substantive posts in each graded discussion. These two posts must be on 2 separate days. The first post in each graded discussion must be completed by Wednesday, 11:59 p.m. Mountain Time (MT). Week 1-7 discussions must be completed by end of week, Sunday, 11:59 p.m. Mountain Time (MT). Week 8 discussion must be completed by end of week, Saturday, 11:59 p.m. Mountain Time (MT). Weekly Course Outcomes: Differentiate among the types of hypotheses in peer-reviewed published studies. Examine the research introduction, literature review, problem, and design in published research articles. Apply the evolution of the research process from selecting an area of interest to formulating a research question and selecting a research design. Evaluate the credibility of the author of published research. Value the importance of peer review when selecting published research for evidence Value one’s own role in research as a professional nurse Nurses that are using research to gather information and evidence must be able to identify the type of article and type of research they are reviewing. There are benefits to both qualitative and quantitative research and each has an important role in evidence-based practice. Some researchers might focus on observations and collecting data. They might do this through interviews and focus groups. Check out the eye candy (image) below to further your understanding of different types of qualitative research. How does this compare to quantitative? Think quantity. Quantitative looks at numbers that sometimes will be manipulated (Bansal, P., Smith, W. K., & Vaara, E., 2018). We are looking at the numbers in the data to see what it reveals. What are the limitations of each type? What is best fr the problem you are working to address? In the study I shared last week, it makes sense to do a quantitative research approach. We can’t interview the newborns and ask for their thoughts on no pain medication with circumcisions, BUT we can gather assessment data and compare. We can see how many newborns had better results with pain medication vs none. What level of evidence would best address the problem you are researching?
