Complete the reading the short story by William Carlos Williams, “The Use of Force.”
Articulate the doctor’s ethical dilemma in “The Use of Force,” in terms of the “four principles” of medical ethics outlined in your other readings. Which principle(s) are upheld, and which are sacrificed or softened, in the doctor’s actions? Do you think that the doctor has handled things well, or no? In the end, does he (in your opinion) provide the best care possible, in a justifiable manner? Would things be different if the patient were a competent adult?
