Module 1 BackgroundModule 1 Background
Welcome to your first week of content. An important part of becoming a board certified and licensed behavior analyst is knowing the laws and regulations that govern your profession. The first reading for this module is from the NYS Office of the Professions. The link will bring you to the website for Applied Behavior Analysis Licensure. You will read about the requirements and become familiar with the regulations that will dictate what you need to do to become a licensed behavior analyst.
You will also read the introductory chapter of your textbook, which will provide you with an overview of how the field of behavior analysis came about and why our code of ethics exists. Finally, you will read an article on cultural competence. In recent years there has been a push within the field for behavior analysts to take steps to ensure the interventions they design are not only behaviorally sound, but also take into account the cultural practices of the families they serve. The article will give you an overview of this work in the field and give you a chance to respond and discuss the issue.
