Global Lessons on Guns and using Wright’s “The Man Who Was Almost a Man” as a cautionary tale, in
4-6 pages, create a speech that presents your points of view on gun ownership and gun violence, what
plans you have to address the issues, and how you plan on enforcing them (your response to these is
your thesis). Be sure to state the name of your city. Be sure to do your research and incorporate the
statistics in your speech. Draw a connection between Wright’s Dave and the people you are
campaigning to govern. In your speech, you may consider how Wright represents Dave’s internal
struggle, what Wright intended for the gun to represent, and why Dave was so adamant about
possessing a gun.
