response to this discussion Nursing Research focuses on providing a strong scientific foundation for the profession of nursing to be built upon by utilizing scientific knowledge and using it to advance the profession of nursing (Nursing Research, 2006). The overall goal of the process of nursing research is to improve the health and quality of life of individuals. The National Institute of Nursing Research is a strong contributor to nursing research. The N.I.N.R. is an organization that helps advance the field of nursing by funding and supporting a variety of nursing research projects (U.S. Department of Health & Human Services, 2021).. The N.I.N.R. breaks nursing research down into four core components. Those four components are as follows: Build the scientific foundation for clinical practic, prevent disease and disability, manage and eliminate symptoms cause by illness, and enhance end-of-life palliative care. (U.S. Department of Health & Human Services, 2006). The four of these aspects, collectively contribute to what nursing research means to the . In order to reach their goal of advancing the nursing field and specifically nursing research, composed a strategic plan. As mentioned in the discussion post prompt, the five priorities from the . 2016 plan are 1. To enhance health promotion and disease prevention. 2. To improve the quality of life of ill individuals by managing symptoms of both acute and chronic illnesses. 3. Improve the quality of palliative and end-of-life care. 4. To enhance innovation in both science and practice. 5. To develop the next generation of nurse scientists. I do agree with all of these priorities and find them all applying in my healthcare experience. For the past three years I have worked on an intermediate care unit in the hospital that specialized in both neurology and oncology, however just earlier this month a began a new job working at an oncology clinic that focuses on clinical trial research. Throughout, these two positions, I have witnesses how all five of these priorities play a role in the development of healthcare and the nursing profession. The first priority which is to enhance health promotion and disease prevention is evident any any expect of healthcare. If we can assist individuals in maintaining their health and preventing illness before it happens, it will greatly improve the overall wellbeing of those individuals. The second priority of improving the quality of life in individuals with both chronic and acute illnesses has also been evident to me throughout my nursing career. In the hospital, the majority of our patients are suffering from acute illnesses or exacerbation. One of the most important things we do in the hospital setting is controlling pain for patients. This is done to improve their quality of life while they are struggling with their illness. Similarly, with oncology patients in the clinic, pain control is a very important factor in improving our patients quality of life, but in this setting it is often long-term, chronic pain that is being targeted. The third priority of improving palliative and end-of-life care is also very important to the nursing profession. Thinking about end-of-life care is sometimes forgotten about until a patient is already at the point where they need this type of care. By making end-of-life and palliative care a priority for nursing research, I feel that much more thought and planning will go into this type of field, and hopefully the nursing profession will be better prepared to administer this type of care, thus making a better experience for our patients. The fourth and fifth priorities are both very important to the development of healthcare. Innovation is the act of implementing new ideas and methods to improve, which is beneficial in all healthcare settings. The fifth priority is simply to grow the field of nursing research to advance the field of nursing. Although I agree with all five of the priorities selected by the ., I would add one more to the list. The sixth priority that I would focus on would be to consider an individuals social determinants and access to healthcare and the effect that those factors play on the care that individuals receive.
