Goals for this assignment: After completing this paper, students should: 1. Have an understanding of the sociological (demographic, socioeconomic) context of culturally diverse families; 2. Understand the socialization practices and pressures in culturally diverse families; 3. Be able to describe how religious, gender, ethnic, racial, class, sexual orientation, or disability identity are shaped by family influences in contexts of equality and inequality; 4. Develop information competence by selecting and analyzing scholarly articles and information. In your paper, you will discuss the following, and you must use the following headings in your paper: 1. IntroductionProvide a brief overview of your paper, the group you are writing about, and the main points you will should your reader expect from your paper?It should include something like, In this paper, I will discuss X, and then go on to examine Y. I will conclude by considering Z. 2. BackgroundDemographics (education, occupation, number in US) andimmigration history, if applicable. Give a brief description of the situation of this group, and their history. If you select Chinese, for example, and some data are only available for Asian American, then that is fine, but you should be clear in your description what group(s) the data represent. 3. Stressors or struggles that these families face as a result of their cultural identity; specific problems that youth face (through, for instance, language or identity) as a result of being part of this should answer the question, how has this group faced inequality? 4. Values and socializationDescriptions of socialization practices, including cultural values and customs, family characteristics, and especially parent socialization practices.
