Why do you think this is so? 2Explain the “otherness” factor in the way the media perceives women as criminals. Take a look at a newspaper or televsion news report concerning women and crime. What kinds of stereotypes are evident in the report? Do you think women are given more attention even though their crimes may be less atrocious than those committed by males? Otherness:The “otherness” factor is used as a way of explaining, or categorizing, women who do not fit into the typical mold of how society views women. Women are viewed as “passive, maternal, married, and monogamous” and if someone does not fit this, for example a single mother, they are part of the “other” group. (Jewkes, 2018, p.120)
