Observe what you have see/hear regarding family contact, inclusion of families, displays of other cultures (art, music, food, toys), attitude of staff towards families and children.
-What do you see/hear that reflects the staff’s respect (or lack thereof) of families they serve? Give examples.
-Did you see examples of the teachers’ or staff’s biases? Any talk among themselves about a child’s family or “those” people that made you uncomfortable? Give examples.
-Give 2 or 3 examples of active listening and other effective listening skills used by adults in the room.

Observe a child and his/her interactions with adults in the room.
-Describe what you have saw/heard during child/adult interactions (objective descriiptions – what you see/hear) and include both positive and negative interactions
-How did the adults show respect for the child? Give examples.
-How did the adult practice the 3 A’s – examples of each, please, if observed.
-Describe and give examples of 3 strategies you observed for guiding behavior while supporting self-regulation?
-Were there times that you just knew from the adult’s approach that the child would have a negative reaction? If you, how would you have handled that situation?
Reflect on your field experience. You may discuss anything you felt interesting, but tie at least one aspect into what you have learned in this class.
