To begin, race and ethnicity are becoming a growing factor in society which affect people′s sense of belonging and leading to misplaced identity. These two factors often result in prejudice, leading the hat to the misplace identity. Another factor is cultural appropriation. By some it’s seen as an adaptation culture being stolen away from a dominant group. Mostly, people view cultural appropriation as simply the adoption of some particular cultural aspects of another culture. Seems to me the cultural appropriation is starting to become more evident in everyday life. The hat is one of many items in our cultural awakens, but it has seemed to grab my attention, because if Wheaton college culturally appreciated the hat it would not be in the will of their hands. However there are positives to this cultural appropriation, utilization of another person’s or cultural artifact for personal or for a collective purpose is also known as appropriation. Appropriation is an important yet difficult subject to navigate at times. Society runs into these complications with art pieces, cultural factors, and with equal representation of race.
