RESEARCH PAPER GUIDELINES
This assignment requires you to write a paper based on any topic you like…as long as it is about Management or Leadership!
The paper should be about 10 pages long using APA format, have 10-15 references, and be submitted using a hard copy, paper format on 12/2.
Please have a draft copy of your topic and problem statement available to present in class on 10/7 or 10/12.
It will be worth a maximum of 55 points toward your final grade.
This is a research paper!
Good research starts with a focused problem statement and ends with findings and implications/applications/conclusions.
This paper will involve a detailed literature review about your topic to support a conclusion.
The sections of the paper are as follows (please have a title page):
1. Introduction
Describe the research value of your topic as it relates to the management/leadership field. For example how will your research help managers/leaders?
Describe your approach to researching this topic. 5 pts.
2. Problem Statement
What problem are you trying to solve or address? Be as specific as possible. “I want to find out what makes good managers” is NOT a good problem statement. 15 pts.
3. General Review of Literature
Since this paper is in effect a literature review you should use the “funnel” metaphor as a guide here. Start broadly and end up narrowly. For example since this is research on management or leadership you should start with several general definitions or descriiptions of these topics…based on peer reviewed articles. 10 pts
4. Focused Review of Literature
Drill down to specific literature related to your topic and problem statement. 10 pts.
5. Summary of Findings 5 pts
6. Implications/Applications/Conclusions
What is the value of your findings for managers/leaders? 5 pts
7. References 5 pts
