Communicating Truth. Plato’s Phaedrus presents us with three different ways to communicate a truth to others: Socratic dialogue (elenchus); speech-making before an audience; and speech-writing that circulates among readers. (a) In your opinion, what is one strength and one weakness of each type of communication? (b) Do you think persuasion of the soul/mind (psychê) works the same way in all 3 types? (c) If Socrates regards writing as inferior to the other two types, why do you think Plato wrote Phaedrus?
