Background of the Study Pandemics have been in the recent past been on the rise. Communities around the globe have witnessed challenging times with these pandemics with different levels of severity. The most extended pandemic being the recent Covid-19 pandemic that affected both economic operations as well as the way of life. The challenging moments have exposed the youths to a great risk of trauma especially based on the affected academic progression and challenging family relations during the pandemic. As the future becomes more uncertain, more pandemics may be expected to prevail in the future and more so the climatic change related pandemics. On the other hand, academic excellence at this level becomes quite crutial in the entire life of a students. If the trauma is not handled in good time, this may end up affecting the student for the rest of their life. Therefore, society needs to understand the approach they take in supporting the youths to overcome these challenging times as they arise. Existing studies have not been comprehensive enough in the past based on the fact that Covid-19 has been the hardest pandemic ever felt calling for studies to investigate the role of parents in the post-pandemic recovery for the youths whenever such pandemics arise. Hence the current study shall seek to unearth the position taken by parents in the post-pandemic recovery for the youths. Objectives of the study The general objective of the study shall be to establish the impact of parental care on the pandemic trauma recovery among the secondary school students in USA. In order to achieve the research objective, the researcher shall consider some specific objectives for the study to include: i. To determine the prevalence of trauma among the secondary school students during the pandemic period. ii. To determine the prevalence of parental care among parents with children having pandemic related trauma. iii. To determine the role of support services offered to the secondary students experiencing trauma during pandemic periods by different people and its impact on academic success. Research questions The research shall seek to answer the following research questions: i. Are there secondary school students facing trauma during the pandemic period in Texas? ii. Are the parents informed of their role in supporting these students to overcome the trauma after the pandemic period? iii. Is there any impact brought about by the trauma support services to the academic excellence of secondary school students experiencing trauma in the period? Significance of the study The study shall be useful to the policymakers in defining the best policies that should be put in place to prevent youths from experiencing trauma and the necessary bodies that should aid in helping the youths to recover from trauma. In practice, the study shall inform parents on the role and position that they should take in parental care to help prevent trauma among youths and for the recovery of those already affected. In theory, the study shall build on the body of knowledge for reference in future scholarly work and help in establishing a gap for future studies to be done on the subject matter. These crucial uses underscore the importance of this study and highlight how it would contribute greatly to the education sector.
