explored the cinema of truth, cinema verite and direct cinema, two styles that are often in dialogue with one another carrying their own meanings and derivations when defining and capturing truth. We also explored reflexive documentaries and how they too aim to uncover or present some sort of truth revealing the seams by which their stories are held together.
Utilizing specific passages from the Navaro & Spence, Cunningham, readings and our recent discussions, Choose two (excerpts) films that we viewed in class, discuss the style they utilize and how the filmmaker uses that mode to assert or presents truth. Be sure to analyze and examine the role of the stylistic approach and its use of evidence. Lastly, consider how each construction of truth affects the viewers perception of reality.
