Write a paper on Rhetorical analysis. Identify the author’s central message or theme in their text, the text is “in the mind of a master procrastinator “ By Tim Urban. analyze how they produce their argument, why they make the rhetorical choices they do, and ultimately, whether or not they were successful in persuading their readers. Your thesis statement for this essay should therefore answer whether “yes” the author is persuasive or “no” the author is not persuasive in convincing their audience, and it should highlight some particular reasoning for the text’s persuasiveness or lack of persuasiveness. Here are some key questions you may want to address. Who is the intended audience for the text you’re analyzing and why is this important? What is the author’s purpose in writing this piece? How does the author portray themselves as a speaker in the text? What specific rhetorical devices (ethos, pathos, logos) and strategies does the author use, and why might they have chosen them? What literary devices—metaphor, simile, parallelism, personification, etc.—do they use and to what effect? How successful is the writer in connecting with and persuading the audience? You do not have to address every rhetorical aspect of the text—only the ones that support your argument regarding why and how the text is or is not persuasive. Remember that your ultimate goal in this paper is to argue convincingly why or why not the author is effective in conveying their message. I will look closely at the following areas. Thesis: Is there a clear and precise thesis statement that provides an analytical claim with reasons about how the text is/is not persuasive? Analytical Engagement with Text: Do you focus on and analyze the structure, rhetorical triangle (audience, author, purpose), rhetorical appeals (ethos, pathos, logos), and other literary devices of the text? Do you address how the author builds and presents his/her argument? Does the essay focus on analysis, not summary of the author’s ideas? Support: How well do you support your analysis with clear examples and direct quotes from the text? Organization: How well do you adhere to good essay structure and organization (introduction with a thesis statement; body paragraphs beginning with topic sentences; and a conclusion that restates the thesis)? Grammar and Mechanics: How well have you edited and proofread so that are no major grammatical or spelling errors? MLA Format: Is it correct and complete?
