The first point I will make to support my thesis is ___________. This point is important because ___________”.
What are the similarities and differences in the treatment of love and how is this significant? What methods are used to develop this topic? Why study these pieces together? Students should be able to finish the following sentence: “These two stories are about love (explain in what way) and they are related because ______.” This will be the basis for your thesis (but it will need a great deal of improvement and expansion).
• Paragraph 1 (Introduction): This paragraph will introduce the research topic and must have an underlined thesis statement in it. If this is completed well, students may use this as the introduction for their final research paper. This should use formal diction.
• Paragraph 2 (Relevant background information): This paragraph should provide relevant background and explanations of the topic. Be careful that the information directly relates to the thesis statement. Again, if this is completed well, students are welcome to use this paragraph in their final research paper. This paragraph should use formal diction.
• Paragraph 3 (Paper breakdown): In this paragraph students should “give a tour” or give a brief preview of the major parts of their papers. Students must identify and discuss 3-4 major points that this paper will discuss and why these points are important. Why should these points be included in the paper? What value do they add to the overall topic? Students will need to conduct research before writing this paragraph to do so successfully. In this paragraph students may refer to themselves (“I, me, my, etc.). So students should write something like: “The first point I will make to support my thesis is ___________. This point is important because ___________”.
• Paragraph 4 (Research Plan): Students need to find a minimum of three secondary/scholarly sources via the NCC databases and/or Google Scholar. No source outside of the databases or Google Scholar will be allowed. These will be the sources that students will use in their research papers, so choose carefully.
o Students need to include the title, author, and where they found the sources (be precise – a specific database, etc.)
