Discuss on creating a training video scriipt about the importance of interoperability for communications between your agency and others such as mutual aid providers or hospital emergency departments. You have been asked to create the scriipt as a training tool for your next all hazards regional meeting.
Scenario: Your unit is traveling from a small community hospital with a patient being transferred to a larger urban hospital for advanced care that is four hours away. In your community, you can talk to the emergency department (ED) on the radio in your ambulance on a pre-identified channel. If there is Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) protected information being shared, your cell phone is the preferred method of communication. The ED phone number is programmed into your phone. When you are within one hour of your destination, your patient begins to complain of pain and requests pain medication. You are not authorized to give pain medication without a direct order from a physician. You pick up your cell phone only to note that there is almost no signal and you cannot locate the facility phone number anywhere in your paperwork. Your radio is out of range of the local hospital back in your community. Your patient is becoming increasingly upset and repeats the request for medication. How will you handle this? How could improved interoperability make this situation less stressful? What tools would you need?
occurring if it were a real video. Your completed scriipt must be between two and three pages in length.
