Everything about me was judged and made fun of. This made me feel bad about who I was. I started pretending to be someone else just to fit in with my peers.I started telling myself that I was not worth anything. This negatively impacted my mental health, my studies along with my social and personal life. The issue of the current generation is that one has to meet some fundamental gender based standards in order to fit in the society. For over 3 years of my life, I felt isolated. I didnt feel like doing anything productive every morning. I felt as if my life had no purpose. After my sophomore year of high school, my parents decided to move to the . I promised myself to start anew. Finally, 7th of August was the day I arrived back in the . as a high school junior. I was just hoping that everything will fall into place now. After traveling halfway across the globe,I got the opportunity to know different cultures. I was exposed to a new was surrounded by people with different personalities, interests, opinions and taught me that it is totally okay to be unique. I also could be myself in front of them. Soon, my school the school was virtual, I didnt have many friends. In order to beat that isolation, I started investing my time in my school work. I really enjoyed my class called audio/video production where I got the opportunity to film and edit everything from beautiful scenery to peoples opinions about a topic. I loved working with a camera and exploring its features. I also developed an interest in theatre. I immensely enjoyed acting in plays or to mimic somebody. It lets me use all of my energy and talent. On the 14th of February I experienced the first snow of my life that I can remember. It was so exciting to see the whole neighborhood dressed in white. The next day most of the cities in Texas had no power and time I kind of started feeling Isolated again. It reminded me of my time in india. To avoid that I started rehearsing Indian classical dance, kathak for which I had taken lessons for 6 years. Through that I could express literally every emotion hidden in me from years ago. This led to a serious realization that I had not let myself express my emotions of the time I was bullied. At the same time, I was coming across so many cases on the internet about anxiety, depression and sexual assault. It was devastating to see people suffer. I decided to do something about this. I wanted to use my voice and speak up for not only myself but others. I then contacted a model and took his interview about the challenges he faced during his journey. I also interviewed my friend who is an international silver medalist in Yoga. I collaborated with H And S and talked about my challenges on their started posting this on social media to help others. This inspired me too but, that was not enough. I then started using my filming and editing skills and I am currently directing a short film about anti-bullying and other about anxiety/depression. I am also working on a website about the same where people will be able to express what they feel and can connect with people dealing with similar issues. This year, this country, this environment has given me the opportunity to help others, to know different cultures and to develop myself .This experience has turned me into an independent, strong woman. I love and appreciate who I am. I also love to meet unique people and learn something from them. I wake up every morning with an want to help a lot of people in the future and tell them they are worth anything and everything.Show more
