Write a Speech class, topic is on person losing one of the 5 senses and having to use the other four help this person experience the one they’re missing. How does my class look to a person who can’t see? It was a humbling process, and I decided to start rebuilding from scratch. In doing research, I recalled an interview with one of my favorites artists, Jimi Hendrix, saying that he had synaesthesia, causing him to hear sound in color. I can’t say that I have had this exact experience, but I can tell you how one of my favorite sunsets sounded. This type of thinking is often referred to as abstract. 1) Imagine that a person is born without one of the five senses. Pick one: Sight, Smell, Sound, Taste, or Touch 2) Use any of the other four senses to help this person experience the one they’re missing. Make up your own combination and enjoy the abstract process of trying to describe it. Additional Teaching Note: Effective storytellers use language to enhance an audience’s experience; the same way chefs use ingredients to enhance a meal & carpenters use special tools to enhance a creative project. For this assignment, think of words as tools for making uncommon experiences more common. Communication comes from the Latin root, communicare, which meant to make common. The goal here is to communicate effectively.Show more
