Structured This means that your essay should establish your main points or arguments and should move through these systematically. The main points should be clear but do not use sub-headings and your structure will be evident in how you explore each point then move on to the next. Academic essay You should not be telling a story; this is not reflective so do not use I in my practice or the author. It would be much more effective to phrase it as In contemporary nursing practice or nurses today must consider. This is what we mean by writing in the third person. The points you make should be justified by the evidence, not just what you personally believe. If you express a statement, ask yourself, How do I know that? Critique a nursing topic using a qualitative and quantitative piece of research Choose a topic that interests you or that you wish to explore further and know more about. When we say critique we mean write about the main themes involved in this topic using nursing literature that you have read around this topic.
