Write a paper examining American Modernism “American Literature: 1914 to 1945” is a study of representative works selected from fiction and poetry that reflect significant modernist trends in literary techniques, themes, and cultural values. Your task is to select 6 works that we have read this term and explain why they are representative of Modernism. Organize your discussion so as to illuminate trends in modernist techniques and themes, and how those elements reflect social and historical contexts, considering such issues as race, class, and gender. Imagine writing to an audience of your peers who are reasonably well educated but not familiar with the Modernist movement. Also make sure your writing is clear, focused, well-organized, logical, and engaging. There are four parts to the project: proposal, annotated bibliography, PowerPoint outline, and paper/self-reflection memo. In Step One, you will present the proposal for your project in one paragraph, identifying your six works, their modernist techniques and themes, and what social and historical contexts they reflect.
