Wk 2: Discussion: What’s Gender Got to Do with It? Which of the authors or essays from the “What’s Gender Got to Do with It?” readings you were assigned this week (Slaughter, Dorment, Kington, Reiner, or Eberstadt) describe a gender issue that you find compelling, relevant, relatable, or problematic, and why? Your post should follow the format suggested by the title of our textbook, They Say I Say by doing the following: 1. Introduce the “They Say” by describing the essay you’ve chosen to respond to. What is the title, and who is the author? Briefly summarize (using the skills and templates described in Chapter 2 of the book) the two or three most important points made by the author. 2. Explain the “I Say” response portion: Why have you chosen to respond to this essay, and what is your argument about it? Try to make two clear points; you can easily signal these with “First” and “Second” or you can enumerate your lists. ***Readings Assigned for the week are attached*** ***Follow the General Discussion Forum Instructions to write Discussion Board Correctly*** General Discussion Forum Instructions: 1. The initial response post to the DQ should be substantive. To qualify as a substantive initial post to a DQ, the initial response must be at least 150 words, or, if required by the directions, a video that meets requirements. 2. Brief supporting quotes are always required, along with MLA parenthetical citations. A works-cited entry is not expected unless you cite a text that is not on our syllabus. 3. Get in the habit of using the claim + evidence + explanation format for analyzing or discussing texts.
