The estimated loss caused by these crimes exceed billions of dollars annually. To recover these special pieces, the FBI established an Art Crime Team to bring the criminals to justice. The team consists of 16 special agents who work with trial attorneys for prosecutions. The National Stolen Art File is a database containing information about reported stolen art and cultural properties for use of law enforcement across the world.
