Analyze internal frame factors for a proposed nursing program in a community that you are familiar with. You may choose to conduct a review of an actual nursing program in a community. Introduction: Include what internal frame factors are and why it is important to evaluate them as related to curriculum development. Internal Factors are: (1) Description and Organizational Structure of the Parent Academic Institution: -discuss the type of educational institution the nursing program located (ie do the nursing program match the type of educational institution in its purpose, mission, and vision). -discuss the milieu of the parent institution on regard to the nursing program -discuss the organizational structure of the parent institution (ie include the nursing program recognized in the institution for its place in education, scholarship, and service to the community -discuss the layers of approval processes for program approval and curriculum revisions, who are the major players in the various levels approval processes (2) Mission and Purpose, Philosophy, and Goals of the Parent Institution: – -discuss the mission, philosophy, and goals of the parent institution – When considering a MSN- Nursing Administration Program curriculum, are the mission, philosophy, and goals of the parent institution supportive of the MSN- Nursing Administration program (3) Internal Economic Situation and its Influence on the Curriculum – discuss the operating budget of the nursing program Discuss the resources for the program activities (4) Resources within the Institution and Nursing Program -discuss the physical location of the program (ie on-campus and web-service for off-site students access) include how many classrooms, discuss clinical practice activities, simulation and computer lab) -discuss technology in the program is the technology systems in place for the institution, discuss if the technology needs to updated -discuss what is in place for nursing program planning and curriculum revision. -Discuss what teaching-learning continuing education programs are in place for the faculty -Discuss how many text and journal holdings as well as electronic databases does the library have and do they meet the requirements/needs for students and faculty -Discuss the available hours for staff support for students and faculty to access the library and other electronics (5) Faculty and Student Characteristics Describe the characteristics of the current student body and the history of the applicant pool to the nursing program Discuss the nursing program partnership and plans with the admissions department for recruiting and retaining students Describe the characteristics of the faculty (ie number of faculty, education level, clinical expertise, teaching experience) (6) Analysis of the Data and Decision Making -summarize the feasibility for developing the new MSN program discuss the positive, negative, and neutral findings that can influence the curriculum and program planning.
