Assignment 3 provides students with an opportunity to learn and practice the steps involved in constructivist Grounded Theory data analysis, one of the longest-lasting and highly respected approached to qualitative data analysis. GT analysis can also be applied in conjunction with other qualitative methodologies, such as ethnography. This assignment relates to CSLO 1-5. Proposed Method: Review the constructivist grounded theory method of data analysis described by Charmaz in Chapter 3.In approximately two pages double-spaced, describe how you will conduct your data analysis based on this grounded theory method. You should present the steps conceptually (e.g., how they are described in general) and operationally (e.g., how you plan to carry out the step in particular). You should use the future tense in describing these steps. GT Coding: Prepare for analysis by copying transcript from Assignment 2, own transcript, or transcript from database into a new file. Develop a comprehensive set of open codes, a set of axial codes, and a theoretical code using the constant comparative method. Compose your open codes using gerunds as outlined by Charmaz; your axial codes are categories showing the relationships of the codes to each other. Your theoretical code is the core category that relates to all codes. Theory and Matrix: Carry through with your analysis and develop a theory a grounded theoryand create a visual display in the form of a matrix or graphic. Also include memo’s of all analytic decisions Report of Findings: Write a summary describing the process of your analysis, your decision points, questions and issues over which you pondered, and why you ultimately chose your particular theoretical code and the rationale for the grounded theory you developed.Show more
