Identify a cross curriculum topic (Eg: sustainability) and choose three different cross curriculum texts that students in the middle or upper years of primary school might engage with. Justify what makes these texts appropriate for middle or upper years of primary students. (An example book is ‘Welcome Home’ by Christina Booth, but use whichever books you find work best).Analyse the texts considering features of text that might support and challenge readers, across a range of reading abilities, drawing from ideas in the unit and professional readings related to reading development and teaching.Choose one of the three texts and, drawing on the teaching practices for reading and viewing, design a sequence of two reading lessons, with each lesson drawing on a different teaching practice, that will enable students to access, comprehend and respond to the text. The lesson plans must include 1) – learning outcomes informed by curriculum documents (Choose one of either The Australian Curriculum or The Victorian Curriculum), and 2) – details of the lesson. Included in this section is a justification of how your pedagogical decision-making addresses access, comprehension and text response across the two lessons.Criteria for marking:Justification of what makes the texts suitable for middle or upper years of primary students (10%).Analysis of the texts which clearly identifies knowledge of potential supports and challenges for the students across a range of reading abilities in the middle or upper primary school (10%).Design and justification of a reading lesson sequence, which is embedded within the teaching practices, which enables students to access, comprehend and respond to the text, drawing on unit readings to support the discussion (20%).
