Throughout the course, we have learned about different “isms” and forms of prejudice. In the last module, we learned about intersectionality, which is a growing multidisciplinary field which recognizes and attends to the fact that people hold multiple group identities and therefore experience life in a complicated and more complex way than previously considered in psychology. Your assignment is to design a research study that incorporates intersectionality. Consider all the topics that we have covered in this semester- what questions do you still have? For example, you might consider disparities between different racial/ethnic and gender identity groups. Design a study which incorporates intersectionality (That you can test). 1. What is your main question? (What is it that you want to know, using an intersectional lens)? 2. What is the rationale for your study? In other words, why is it important to conduct this study? Remember that intersectionality aims to address structural-level issues which hold historical weight. Try not to just “pick” multiple forms of prejudice- rather, why are the intersecting forms of prejudice that your study involves important to study together? 3. What is your hypothesis? 4. What methods will you use to test your hypothesis? For example, is this an online study? In person? Who will your participants be? How will you recruit your participants? 5. Briefly describe your study design. For example, what tasks must your participants complete? 6. What are your proposed results?7. Most importantly, what might the results of your study reveal about human nature? About our society?
