Management Information Systems (MIS) Analysis Paper
This assignment is intended to be a comprehensive exercise demonstrating your ability to examine a substantive issue related to information systems and technology in the organization. The paper will be done as part of a small group to provide hands-on experience developing work products in a team environment. You are free to consult with the instructor about the progress of your paper or issues.
Paper Proposal
As a work team, select an information systems related topic to analyze. This assignment is divided into two parts. The first part is the paper proposal. This proposal will follow a specific format as laid out in the Research Paper Proposal Worksheet. The proposal will identify an area or trend related to the use of information technology and systems in the organization. You will then identify an issue or problem within that contextual area that is in need of support or a solution. Next, you will address how the technology you are going to focus on specifically impacts the issue facing the organization and why it needs further study. You will then create a thesis statement that specifically establishes what your paper will examine. This thesis statement should be research oriented (looking at the facts for an answer instead of to simply support a predefined solution). This proposal will be the basis of the first section of final paper. The instructor will review your proposal and possibly make suggestions. Be sure to incorporate fixes and improvements in your final paper.
Below are some example topics / topical areas:
An examination of Information Security Standards used in the US versus other nations that do business here (EU, Canada, China, Great Britain)

Mechanics:
The Introduction / Proposal
This submission should be about 1-2 pages. The idea is to:
Identify your topic. Vagueness is NOT your friend. A vague topic ends when you run out of time, not when you’re finished.
Establish the topics importance (to an organization)
Identify any issues with the current state of how the topic is understood or applied
Thesis Statement for the paper.
This is a single sentence that succinctly states what your paper will do or examine. This is not a laundry list of topics. The statement should be a statement version of a research question, not a position that you intend to support.
Provide at least 7 good quality references (cited or supporting) as a separate sheet. These will roll into the final paper bibliography.
