Final Research Paper
Each student will analyze a recent or proposed education policy or initiative. Including the readings from this course, you must list 10 – 15 references in total. (You must use at least 5 additional resources that are not in this course syllabus). The policy or initiative can be a recently implemented education policy (such as a curriculum document, family engagement policy, or an equity strategy), or a proposed education strategy which you have found in the literature.
In the final paper you should
• Follow APA 7th edition format and have a title page, introduction, and conclusion.
• Explicitly state the theory and concepts (from the readings) that will be used to critically analyse the content of the policy or initiative with citations from original sources, and which will guide the format of the paper
• Demonstrate critical thinking through examination of multiple perspectives related to your argument
• Examine barriers and facilitators to the development of social equity and disability justice from the perspective of children, families, communities and professionals.
• Propose potential ways of addressing and overcoming barriers to social equity
• Develop your own ideas about how you as a professional could improve efforts to develop social equity in the context of the policy
• Be double-spaced and 8-10 pages (averaging 2000 words) in length, not including the title page and references.
• Have 10-15 references from academic sources (no more than 5 should come from class materials including videos and readings).
• Show clearly how you use resources and put scholars “in conversation” with each other to support your claims and arguments.
