2050.01.1 : Conducting a Needs Analysis
The graduate conducts a needs analysis in order to identify the unmet needs of learners.
A needs analysis considers the learning objectives and the challenges and resources required to meet the goals of learners. To begin this task, you will choose an instructional unit that you have previously used in your classroom that includes an evaluation of students’ prior knowledge and skills. You will then conduct a needs analysis using data you previously collected about the unit. Using your analysis, you will then determine priority areas of educational needs.
Your submission must be your original work. No more than a combined total of 30% of the submission and no more than a 10% match to any one individual source can be directly quoted or closely paraphrased from sources, even if cited correctly. The similarity report that is provided when you submit your task can be used as a guide.
You must use the rubric to direct the creation of your submission because it provides detailed criteria that will be used to evaluate your work. Each requirement below may be evaluated by more than one rubric aspect. The rubric aspect titles may contain hyperlinks to relevant portions of the course.
Tasks may not be submitted as cloud links, such as links to Google Docs, Google Slides, OneDrive, etc., unless specified in the task requirements. All other submissions must be file types that are uploaded and submitted as attachments (e.g., .docx, .pdf, .ppt).
A. Select an instructional unit you have previously taught that includes an evaluation of the students’ prior knowledge and skills. Then conduct a needs analysis as follows:

1. Identify one state or national standard from the instructional unit, including the source of the standard, the alphanumeric code, and the written standard.
a. Describe each of the following to unpack the standard from part A1:
• what students should know
• what students should understand
• what students should be able to do after completing the unit of study
2. Describe or submit the instrument you used to evaluate students’ prior knowledge and skills aligned with the standard from part A1.
3. Analyze the data you collected after administering the instrument from part A2 and then use the results of the analysis to do the following:
a. Describe the gap between where students are in their knowledge or skills and where they need to be to meet the standard in part A1.:
b. Describe the content or skills the students need in order to close the gap according to the standard in part A1.
B. Acknowledge sources, using APA-formatted in-text citations and references, for content that is quoted, paraphrased, or summarized.
C. Demonstrate professional communication in the content and presentation of your submission.
